John Sheltman, 79, and Eileen Beck, 80, both of Selinsgrove, were in a Subaru Outback, and Lieu Nguyen, 49 of Harrisburg was the driver of a Toyota Mini Van — were all pronounced deceased at the scene of "Multiple Traumatic Injuries", Coroner Charles Hall said.

The triple fatal crash happened at mile marker 54. 7 around 2 p.m. on July 14, according to 511 PA and the coroner's office.

The Outback and van were heading south when they were struck by a tractor-trailer that was traveling north when it crossed over the center median for an unknown reason, the coroner explained.

It is unclear if the trucker was injured in the crash and which vehicle caught fire.

I-81 South closed at Exit 57 - PA Route 114 to Mechanicsburg through Exit 52 US Route 11/ I-76 PA Turnpike - Middlesex, according to Thompson.

Rubbernecking caused additional delays.

Pennsylvania State Police were on the scene investigating as of 3 p.m.

The interstate reopened around 11:30 p.m., Thompson said in an updated release.

Nguyen's daughter and 4-year-old granddaughter remain in the hospital. Click here to read an update on their conditions.
